Tsurphu to Yangpachen trek is a rugged walk beginning at Tsurphu Monastery and crossing several high valleys like Leten valley and Bartso valley before coming into the broad and windswept Yanpachen valley, ends at Yanpanche Monastery which overlooks part of the Trans-Himalaya range. As you start your trip to Tsurphu Monastery, this rugged walk crosses several alpine valleys before emerging into the broad and windswept Yangpachen valley which is situated above the altitude extending from 4400m to even above 5300m at the Lasar-la. Combining alpine tundra and sweeping mountain panoramas with visit to monasteries and a nunnery, Tsurphu to Yangpachen trekking nicely provide the visitors to observe cultural and wilderness activities closely. this trek nicely balances cultural and wilderness activities. Tsurphu Monastery has an annual festival around the time of the Saga Dawa festival, on the 9th, 10th and 11th days of the 4th Tibetan month (around May). There is plenty of free-flowing chang (Tibetan barley beer), as well as ritual cham dancing and the unfurling of a great Thangka on the platform across the river from the monastery. Yangpachen is famous with its geothermal scenery Throughout the year, hot water at 70℃ boils and bubbles amid a thick fog. The grandest sight appears when the throttle valve is turned on, boiling water and steam will burst straight into the sky.

April to October is the best time to do this trek because of the flourishing grass and wildflower in grassland. This trek perfectly balances cultural and wilderness activities and tourists can have a close eye to Tibetan nomads lifestyle.

Itinerary

 

Day 01: KTM Arrival pick up from Airport and welcoming by garland and transfer to Hotel, trek briefing and welcome dinner.

Day 02: Sightseeing world heritage sights Hindus & Buddhist shrines / Trek preparation

O/N Hotel B/B

Day 03: Fly or Drive to Lhasa (3650m)

Day 04: Lhasa City sightseeing, visit Potola Palace & Jokhang Temple

Day 05: Lhasa City sightseeing, visit Drepung monastery, Sera monastery

Day 06: Lhasa-Tsurphu Monastery (4480m/2-3hrs)

Day 07: Tsurphu Monastery-Leten (5105m/4-5hrs)

Day 08: Leten-Bartso (5300m/3hrs)

Day 09: Bartso-Dorje Ling Nunnery (15km/4hours)

Day 10: Dorje Ling Nunnery-Yangpachen Monastery (4300m/4hrs) – Lhasa

Day 11: Fly back to Kathmandu and rest of time free for either relaxation or shopping

Day 12:  Final Departure to airport by privet vehicle and back to home share experiences with family and friends unforgettable memory of Tsurphu to Yangpachen Trek

Clothing and Equipment

  1. A woollen hat that can cover your ears
  2. Long sleeved cotton shirts/blouses
  3. Heavy woollen sweater/polarfleece jacket & lightweight wool sweater/polarfleece pullover
  4. Waterproof and wind proof jackets and pants for in some places the wind can be very strong and cold
  5. Light scarf or neckerchief
  6. Cotton walking shorts for hot days (knee-length or almost knee-length), one pair of polarfleece pants.
  7. Trekking trousers should be light and quick drying.
  8. Gaiters
  9. Several pairs of underwear
  10. Long Thermal Underwear
  11. Woollen or synthetic gloves, preferably Wind Fleece Gloves
  12. Good quality socks, preferably woolen for your hiking boots, and also some thin cotton socks
  13. A pair of cotton long pants and a long cotton skirt is recommended for women
  14. Synthetic or Down Insulated Jacket rated to at least -7 degrees C (approximately 20 degrees F)

  2. Sun glasses with UV protection and goggles for higher altitude
  3. Drinking water bottle
  4. Torch or headlamp with spare batteries and bulb

  7. Sturdy and well fitted back pack and day pack with water proof cover
  8. A couple of small towels - the more absorbent the better
  9. Toilet kit: Just the essentials—toothbrush and toothpaste, comb, biodegradable soap,and small metal mirror

  11. Journal, reading book, and writing materials for quiet moments
  12. Umbrella: For rain and hot sunshine
