Overview

The Chitwan National Park Birding Tour with an area of 932 sq. km lies in the inner Tarai in the southern part (27°24′ to 27°40’N and 83°52′ to 84° 49’E) of central Nepal. Therefore, it was established in 1973 along the flood plains of the Rapti, Reu, and Narayani rivers. The park was designated as a World Heritage site in 1984AD. About 60% of the area was dominated by Sal forest, Chir pine along southern Churiya hills, Palms, etc. There are lots of riverine forests and grasslands that are being flooded seasonally and, this area supports a large number of bird and mammal species. The Chitwan National Park is a huge area and one of the biggest National Parks in Nepal.

The Chitwan National Park Birding Tour is the homeland of more than 564 species of birds. The Park has also been identified as an Important Bird Area in Nepal (IBA). Many winter visitors or migratory birds are found in the park. Some birds can be observed only in the park. Like, Red Junglefowl, and Indian Peafowl. However, the winter migrating birds are Bar-headed Goose, Ruddy Shelduck, Cotton Pigmy-goose, etc. There are Summer visitors and Passage migrants too.

Similarly, the National Park is a habitat for many other birds. Like, Blue-eared Kingfisher, Great Slaty Woodpecker, Great Hornbill, Blue-bearded Bee-eater, Eurasian Eagle Owl, Brown Fish Owl, and Bengal Florican. Similarly, Common Greenshank, River Lapwing, Brahminy Kite, Crested Serpent Eagle, Changeable Hawk Eagle, Darter, Woolly-necked Stroke, Lesser Adjutant, Morganzer, Goosander, Greater Racket-tailed Drongo, Asian Paradise Flycatcher, White-rumped Shama, Sultan Tit, Puff-throated Babbler, Baya Weaver, Camon Crane, Saras Crane, Ruddy Kingfisher, etc. bird-watching trip in Chitwan is one of the best places in Nepal. Also, many years later in the National Park Mandarin duck is recorded in the 2020 winter. However, it was taken from the Birds of Nepal list.

On the other hand, many different grassland birds are easily can be found inside the national park. Also, in farmland birds are very commonly observed in the area. Besides birds, flagship mammals like Bengal Tigers, wild elephants, one-horn Rhinoceros, common leopards, Sloth bears, Spotted deer, Huck deer, fishing cats, etc. are also found in the area. Most importantly, the Chitwan is a paradise home for birds and mammals. Above all, people who have hobbies, interests, or professions in wildlife and photography, or who are very keen and enthusiastic about birds and Mammals. They should visit once in the park. Day 01

KTM arrival picks up from Int. airport and welcome by garland and transfer to Hotel, Tour briefing and welcome dinner

On your arrival day in Kathmandu, You will be received by the representative staff from Himalayan Trails Trekking & Climbing P Ltd with proper greeting. You will be taken to the hotel where you have your time to settle in and freshen up. In the afternoon, you will visit our office there will be short trip briefing and introduction with your trekking guide. After short briefing you can hang out to the necessary places you might need to go before trekking like, Money changer, ATM, Market ETC. In the evening, there will be a welcome dinner hosted by Himalayan Trails Trekking & Climbing. For dinner, you will be served excellent cuisine.

Day 02

Bird watching tour in Kathmandu –Shivapuri National Park

After breakfast, leave with lunch pack and Drive up the Shivapuri National Park which lies a few kilometers north from Kathmandu’s main hub. The park is managed by the Nepalese Army and we view Some of the birds such as the Laughing Thrush, Crested Serpent Eagle, Little Pied Fly Catchers, Ruby – Throats, and Babblers. After full day of Birding return back to Kathmandu.

Ovewrnight at Hotel – (BB) + pack lunch

Day 03

Drive to Chitwan 6 to 7hrs and check in hotel and birding around the hotel garden in the afternoon

After breakfast, drive to Chitwan with a long 6 hours’ drive. Upon your arrival at Chitwan, you will be moved to the hotel for check-in purposes. After refreshment and lunch our guide our guide will give small briefing about upcoming activates. After short briefing rest of the day enjoy birding around the garden. In the evening, enjoy the Tharu Dance Program followed by a typical Nepali dinner.
