Get the best of it with Himalayan Trails for Godawari To Phulchowki Day Hiking.
Phulchowki (2782m) is the highest hill around, situated in the south of Kathmandu valley. In addition, it is one of the most beautiful hiking sites in terms of vegetation in the Kathmandu valley. Not for nothing, Phulchowki means the ‘Hill of Flowers’! This place is home to many native birds and flower species.
Godawari is one of the most popular places around Kathmandu valley. This place is usually famous for family tours, picnics, dating spot for loved ones. It’s about 45-minute drives from the Satdobato, Kathmandu. Phulchowki is the highest of the Hill which encircles the Kathmandu Valley. It is 2760m high. It is situated above Godavari village which is 1525m high. This sub-tropical forest is the richest for birds, over 570 species of flowering plants and wildlife in the valley. It is also the most convenient place to see rare birds in Nepal. Pulchowki and Godavari forest are famous internationally for the richness of flora and fauna but especially butterflies and birds.
Phulchowki is also one of the last surviving ‘cloud forest’ in Central Nepal. This hill is famous for the snowfall which sometimes occurs in January or February, which is quite rare in Kathmandu Valley. Phulchowki hill day hiking tour offers splendid Himalayan views, green Jungle, wild animals, birds, mixed culture. At the top of the hill, there is a shrine of Phulchowki Mai which is surrounded by prayer flags and tridents. If you happen to hike on this route in the month of March / April you might have a chance to watch the month-long annual religious festival held at the shrine to Phulchoki, and some other major festivals on the full moon days in the month of July and August every year. Moreover, you will get the eye-catching view from the eastern part of the Annapurna range to Gaurishanker in the east on a clear day. Further breathtaking view of Kathmandu valley is another glorious part of this visit. Hiking into this area is most interesting in terms of vegetation.
- Day 01
Kathmandu – Drive to Godawari (01 Hours) Hike to Phulchoki then return back to hotel
After having breakfast at the Hotel, drive 14 kilometer south of Kathmandu for about 45 minutes to a place called Godawari (Royal Botanical Garden) with packed lunch box as there are no water or food available on the way. At the top there is a small Army canteen where you could buy tea, water, some snack, noodle soups etc. From here you start to hike gradually uphill along the rugged motor-able road through sub-tropical thick forest about four hours enjoying every step of the hike while capturing precious and attractive photos. We continued our journey through the hills and after walking few hours we will reach the NTV tower, our final destination. The magnificent view from eastern part of Annapurna range to Gaurishankar in the east can be seen from here on a clear day apart from the breathtaking view of Kathmandu valley. After lunch and strolling around from sometime, we hike down following the same trail to Godawari for about 2 hours and drive back to Kathmandu.
