Overview
Chandragiri day hiking is one of the best and newest founded hiking around Kathmandu. It takes about 6/7 hours. This hiking is through evergreen forest, nature as well as wildlife, and bird watching. It brings you as high as 2425 meters above sea level. Chandragiri Hills, also known as the evergreen hill and hiking. The trail is short and easy. It is the best option for you to get outside of the crowded Kathmandu valley for some hours and relaxed on the hillside.
Chandragiri hiking is an exotic destination in Nepal for those who are extremely interested to see the verities for birds as Red-vented Bulbul, Great Egret, Grey Wagtail, House Crow, House Sparrow, Little Egret, Oriental Turtle Dove, Spotted Dove, Steppe Eagle, Kingfishers, Common Myna, Indian Pond Heron, Tit and so many others birds. As per Hindu Mythology, this is believed to be the place where SatiDevi’s forehead fell off her body when lord Mahadev carried her dead body, and also it is believed that because of the blessing of Ichhyashwor Mahadev, King Prithvi Narayan Shah was successful in taking over the Kathmandu Valley.
The view tower, the playground for children, and Bhaleshwor Temple are the major attractions of the site. The newly opened cable car on the hill might be another attraction. The hiking route shortened because of the cable car. However, you can choose to ascend by walking and descend by the cable car. The journey takes you to the varieties of the settlements of different ethnic people. You can hike past the Newar, Brahmin, Chhetri, Tamang, and Sudra castes of people’s settlements. This is probably the only hiking trail in Nepal wherein a short period of time you can observe the plethora of the multi-ethnic community settlements.
The hill is also very popular among hikers. The Mata tirtha – Chandragiri – Thankot hiking route is the popular hiking trail around Kathmandu Valley. Nearby Chandragiri there is a beautiful village of ChitLang in Makwanpur district of Nepal. Besides greenery, panoramic views of mountains, Valley View and chilled weather the chance to see the temple on the hilltop is equally spiritual. Hiking through the local village gives you the experience of hiking somewhere in a remote area of Nepal. We will reach Chandragiri after about 3 hours of hiking from Matatirtha. You will explore the lifestyle and cultural practices of people during your hike.

After having breakfast, we pick up you from your hotel and drive to Matatirtha, a Hindu temple, Usually not so crowded, people who have lost their mother fill up the place to pay their homage to their demised mothers during Matatirtha aunsi also known as mother’s day. After reaching there your tour guide will give short briefing about the hike. We carry some snacks and water to have in the way. The trail leads to Godamchaur through pine forests and small village towards Chhap Bhanjyang at 2275m. You have to walk 3 hours steep up stone staircase to the Chhap Bhanjyang. Chhap Bhanjyang has quite a few numbers of local tea and coffee shops. After a quick coffee break in Chap Bhanjyang, you will be walking through the forest. After walking for about 1 hour through the forest, you will reach your final destination Chandragiri Hill at 2729m. Once you reach the top, it brings you incredible panorama of the Himalayan range from east to west. A spectacular long range view of the snow-capped mountain and bustling Kathmandu valley is just breathtaking. After we have lunch enjoying the panoramic view from the top of Chandragiri, we will come back to Thankot cable car station via cable car we will pick up you from Thankot and drop you back to your hotel after the tour.
