Overview
The Rolwaling Valley Trek is not as easy to reach from Kathmandu as Langtang but it is well worth a visit.
It takes a long 8-9 hour journey by local bus to Singati Bajar. From there you start the following morning walking for 6 to 7 hours along the beautiful, deep copper green Tama Koshi River (tama means copper) until Chetchet, passing Gonggur Khola, a little roadside village, at the moment in the middle of a large construction side for a hydro power station. Most part of this stretch, however, is on the road. And from Chetchet it is still a very demanding step climb uphill until you reach Simigaun for the overnight stay. Going by private car to Gonggur Khola and starting the trek from there is a somewhat pricier but far more convenient and quicker option.
From Simigaun it is some uphill, mostly through rhododendron forest, passing impressive waterfalls, crossing all sorts of bridges, from sturdy iron constructions, suspension bridges or balancing across wooden planks or tree trunks and occasionally catching the glimpse of Langur monkeys. Whenever the forest opens up there are amazing views of the Gaurishankar massif (especially from Surmunche which makes a convenient lunch stop) or down the deep and narrow, very beautiful valley with the turquoise blue Rolvaling Khola River cascading down over large rocks.From Dogaun (Dokhang) – the next overnight stop, picturesquely situated at the banks of the river- the trail is still winding upwards but becoming less steep now and leading through a lush mixed forest with moss covered rhododendron trees, pines, bamboo and the pretty paper flower shrubs (Lokta), filling the air with their intense smell of hyacinths. Ever so often snow covered peaks (Gaurishankar, Cheriko) come into view and the mountain scenery is getting more and more spectacular.
Eventually, approaching Beding, the valley widens up and starts looking very similar to Langtang, flanked on both sides by snow covered peaks. Beding is a pretty Sherpa village, the largest in the Rolvaling valley, beautifully located slightly above the river. Walking in the upper valley becomes easier as the trails almost levels out and there are only moderate ups and downs now.
The trek up to Rolwaling Valley, Tsho-Rolpa lake and back to Simigaun or Gonggur Khola can be done in 7 days if you are prepared to walk at least 6-7 hours per day. But there are different others options you can continue to cross Tashi Laptse and in to the Khumbu valley in Everest region or back same way until Gangur Khola and trek continue to Kalinchok temple famous Hindus Shrines and for the magnificent panoramic view of Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh, Langtang, Rowaling and Everest Range.
The Rolwaling valley does not offer the same touristic infrastructure as Langtang or other popular trekking destinations in Nepal. With a few exceptions ( in Kelje for example the tea houses or lodges along the route are very basic, but the local people there and the lodge owners make up for it with a warm and friendly welcome and they try their best to make you feel comfortable. The landscape, the forests, rivers seem to be more on spoilt here and the mountain scenery is just as stunning as on other trekking routes.
If you want to enjoy absolute tranquility and peace, surrounded by nature at its best and not encounter another human soul for hours the Rolwaling valley is the right place to go.

On your arrival day in Kathmandu, You will be received by the representative staff from Himalayan Trails Trekking & Climbing P Ltd with proper greeting. You will be taken to the hotel where you have your time to settle in and freshen up.

Half day city Tour/ trek briefing and preparation and welcome dinner
The very next morning, after breakfast you will leave for a half day sightseeing tour around Kathmandu valley. Some of these landmarks are considered World Heritage Sites including the historic Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ (Swayambhunath) and Buddhist shrine (Bouddhanath) which is one of the largest stupas in the world. In the afternoon, you will visit our office there will be short trip briefing and introduction with your trekking guide. After short briefing you can hang out to the necessary places you might need to go before trekking like, Money changer, ATM, Market ETC. In the evening, there will be a welcome dinner hosted by Himalayan Trails Trekking & Climbing. For dinner, you will be served excellent cuisine.

Kathmandu – Gongor Khola Drive - 9-10 hours
After breakfast, we will drive from Kathmandu towards Gongor Khola which takes approximately about 9/10 hours. During the drive journey we can have great views of surrounding natural wonders including the daily activities of local people for their survival while we drive over the zigzag hilly roads passing through several local villages and towns.

After having breakfast in Gongor Khola, we follow the trail that heads along the normal path before ascending and descending through the forest. We walk along the river bank and then cross the suspension bridge before climbing up a steep uphill that leads to the Sherpa village of Simigaun.

After having breakfast we walk along the Rolwaling Khola and there are numerous spectacular waterfalls along the way. It takes about 6 hours to reach Dokhang from Simigaon.

Dokhang – Beding (3,740m) 5/6 hrs
After having breakfast we start our trek towards Beding, a fairly large village. The trail continues along the Rolwaling Khola and through thick forests, with the blooming Rhododendron trees. We walk on the left side of the valley with great view of Gaurishankar Mountain and Melungtse which is Rolwaling’s highest summit. We will camp on the bank of the river.

After having breakfast we start our trek towards Na, the last tiny alpine hamlet that is only inhabited during summer months. Na is situated just below the Chekigo Mountain in a beautiful valley overlooked by impressive peaks, including Chobutse, Chugimago etc. It’s going to easy and short walk along the the northen bank of Rolwaling river. After walk thorugh several yaks grazing and people busy in the field of buckwheat and barley we arrive at the monastery believed to be meditative place of Buddhist guru Padma Samvhaba. From here after walking for some more time we finally reach Na. We can explore around the upper slopes of the valley for Snow Partridge or a visit to the nearby glacier.

Naa – Tso – Rolpa Lake (4,560m) back Naa (3,740m) 6hrs
After having breakfast, we start our journey towards the popular and famous glacial Lake of Tsho Rolpa so going be the most memorable and important moment of the trek.Cross the wooden bridge to the left bank of Rolwaling River and move on the prairie-like valley. We trek between two glaciers and enter the ablation valley, soon see the Tsho Rolpa Lake. It is a very popular glacial lake of Nepal. The lake is located at over 4500 meters of altitude will entertain the trekkers and tourists. Enjoy the moment, explore the lake, take pictures of it, and cherish the moment spent at the Tsho Rolpa. After spending the beautiful moment in lake we will return back to Beding by same way with passing several small streams and ascents and descents through the village of Na.

TRAIN AND FITNESS
Physical fitness is one of the most key elements on the trek. The trekking in the Himalayan is not forced on it and pacing is always slow, most of the days generally being shorter than a hiking day at your home country. EXPERIENCE FOR THE NEPAL TREK
The trekking trail and area of Nepal mostly well trodden and natural path most of the regions, even though it can be rocky and rough in some parts. It is not precipitous and there is no rock climbing or Mountaineering which is requiring equipments. It is hike most of the way in Himalaya, but some parts of the hills can be steep up and down and can be longer!
On the way you may meet many people along the trails as well as Donkeys, Yaks and heavy load porters. Walking in the Himalaya there is rule of the way when meet an approaching Donkeys, Yaks and porters always make sure you step to always on side where wide enough to passes through each other,( towards slopes side of the hill or inside of the Trail). Note: never ever stand ridged sides of the trail. If you stand, it means, we call (outside standing is suicide and inside is safe site) because it can be push by them down to mountains or rivers.
The trekking poles are very useful, if you have problems with knees, depending on weather or personal choice for using them. Even though higher up, ice path, moraine, open slopes may give you extra support from it, also quite easy to follow the path.
Always final sections are can be Glacier itself and high elevation, it is bit difficult and occasionally slippery under trails. The ice is covered in water stones and dirt, so where a coolant produces cold temperatures in the surface below.
Comfortable, good sole, ankle support (4 seasons) trekking boots water proof are recommended for the high passes trek but for the lower trek light weight hiking boots are fine to protect you beside, probably going over an ankle, low altitude trek heavy boots will be hot and unwieldy.
ACCOMMODATION ON THE TREK
Tea house trek accommodation will be in comfortable tea houses and lodges run most of the area by local families, except people specify a preference for tents. Every tea house or lodge has a common heated Chimney in the dining hall, although the bedrooms are not heated with mattresses, pillows and two beds in a room. We recommend you to bring your own sleeping bag (3 seasons in normally fine) but possibility is also you can buy and hire in Kathmandu.
Generally most of the tea houses have hot showers by gas gizzards and they have squire toilets but some area have and use drop toilets with flush systems.
For the Camping/ Tent trekking we use branded company tents which are for two persons comfortably can sleep and can put your luggage on side, and we provide you the mattresses. Tents are fixed always near the guest house and eating in our own dining tent, sometimes eating can be indoors, depends on possibility. So toilets sometimes you will use from the lodge but obvious we will have our privet toilet tents too.
Himalayan Trails support
Our main back bones of the trek are porters, will carry your main duffle bag up to a maximum weight of 12-14 kg per guest and supply for all the groups needs, if you need to go back down to the valley together with assisting you. Apart from specially camping, all the accommodations are in local lodge or Tea houses which are well prepared, warm and friendly environment.
